The Leica APO-Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH. Lens - Black is a classic wide-angle focal length lens with a refined optical design that delivers outstanding results without having to stop the lens down. The lens surpasses previous M-series lenses at close range, thanks to a floating element that ensures a consistent performance at all distances and a minimum focusing distance of just 30cm.
Characterized by its apochromatic designation the ten lens elements of the Leica APO-Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH are divided into five groups; three elements feature aspherical surfaces ensuring excellent edge-to-edge sharpness (one of them on both sides). Six elements are made of glasses with anomalous partial dispersion, which not only reduce chromatic aberrations to almost zero, but also provide apochromatic correction - a quality that is rarely found in lenses of this focal length.
The APO-Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH. has been made to achieve maximum imaging performance without compromise. Resulting in a lens that only has to be stopped down for compositional purposes - never for exposure control. The rendition quality at the centre and edges of the image is already so outstanding that there is no scope for further improvement by stopping down. This makes for a lens that will challenge not just current, but also future image sensors. Together with the extremely high, edge-to-edge contrast rendition the almost circular aperture also facilitates especially pronounced bokeh at the wide-open aperture.
The focus ring features a convenient focusing tab for more refined control and has a particularly large throw of 300°, enabling precise focusing at all times despite the extended closest focusing distance. With a smoothly engineered detent at 0.7m on the focus ring, you can feel when the lens steps into the close-focus range and indicates when Live View or an EVF should be used for precise focus and composition. The innovative construction of the lens hood, in combination with highly effective anti-reflective coatings, makes the APO-Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH. extremely resistant to any type of stray light - allowing the photographer to shoot into the sun or other sources of light.
