This pre-owned Minolta CLE Body with a Minolta M-Rokkor 28mm f/2.8 and matching Minolta CLE Flash is a street shooter's dream. It also comes with the original Minolta L37 UV Filter and Minolta 28mm Lens hood.

The Minolta CLE is compatible with the LEICA system but is brilliant in its own right. When released, Minolta promoted it as “the world's first rangefinder camera with interchangeable lenses and TTL automatic and manual exposure systems.”

The Minolta CLE is a TTL-metering automatic exposure aperture-priority 35mm rangefinder camera using Leica M lenses, introduced by Minolta in 1980. The CLE has an electronic focal plane shutter to 1/1000 seconds, a through-the-lens (TTL) silicon photodiode (SPD) exposure meter with aperture-priority automatic or manual exposure and an automated ambient and flash exposure metering system that continues to work and dynamically adjusts the shutter speed and TTL, off the film (OTF) flash during the exposure itself. The SPD measured ambient light as it was reflected off a pattern on the shutter curtains.

It is fitted out for a street photographer, with a Minolta M-Rokkor 28mm f/2.8(CLE), which is a wide-angle prime lens for 35 mm rangefinder cameras with the bayonet mount Leica M. It does a remarkable job at encompassing wide scenes or for working in cramped, constrained quarters. The lens has an aperture range of f2.8-f22 and a minimum focusing distance of 0.8 meters (31 inches). It has a 40.5mm filter thread. This Minolta CLE comes with a hard-to-find Minolta lens shade, a genuine Minolta 40.5mm L37 UV filter

Included in this kit is a Minolta Auto Electroflash CLE. It is beautifully designed as it's sculpted to fit the CLE perfectly. It looks good, feels good, and the power switch is right by your thumb. The CLE flash takes two AAA batteries. Minolta Auto Flash CLE specs are. GN: 14 (meters, ASA 100), (at ASA 25, GN = 46 in feet) Dedicated to the Minolta CLE only, manual operation on all others. TTL/OTF operation with CLE only. Manual and auto flash operation. Flash will not fire unless it is in the hot shoe. 40mm lens coverage, 28mm with a built-in diffuser. ASA range 25-400. It is small and lightweight.

Exc+++ 94%. Very clean body all over, with only light use/marks. Very clean optics. All functions working.

Optics are clear with little to no dust and no fog, no fungus or no scratches. No white spots. The CLE body is very clean, with a few fine scuff marks from normal use. There is minimal brass showing through, as shown in our gallery photos

Key Features of the Used Minolta CLE w. 28mm f2.8 and Minolta CLE Flash S/N - 1014880 / 1010307

  • One of the few M-mount cameras with TTL metering (e.g. M5, CL, CLE, M6).
  • The metering range is EV 3 to 18, which translates to 1/2 second at f/2 to 1/1000 at f/16 using ASA 100 film.
  • The manually set ASA/ISO range is an ample 25 to 1600, with a plus/minus 2 EV range effectively extending it even beyond that.
  • During exposure, a silicon metering cell reads a centre-weighted, bottom-biased reading OFF THE FILM.
  • The only M Mount camera which offers TTL flash (until the 1998 M6 TTL)
  • The only M Mount camera to offer Aperture Priority Exposure
  • Stepless shutter speeds in AE operation
  • Extremely bright RF/VF system
  • An exceptionally smooth shutter release which also doubles as an on/off switch
  • A very quiet shutter with a range of 1 second to 1/1000th plus B
  • Viewfinder frame lines for the 28/40/90 lens
  • Usable collectible with appreciating value if kept in pristine condition.
