The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E-Mount is a versatile wide-angle to portrait-length zoom characterized by its f/2.8 constant maximum aperture. The bright design suits working in available lighting conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field. he optical design incorporates a series of low dispersion and aspherical elements that greatly reduce a variety of aberrations in order to achieve high sharpness, enhanced clarity, and improved colour accuracy.
Complementing the optical attributes, this lens also sports a stepping AF motor, which yields fast, precise, and notably quiet autofocus performance. At the wide end of the zoom range, a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.9 suits working with close-up subjects and an 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality. Additionally, a weather-sealed design benefits working in trying environmental conditions.
The F2.8 Art zoom flagship zoom lens series is developed primarily to achieve superior optical performance. As extra-low dispersion glass materials, six sheets of “F” low dispersion (FLD) glass and two sheets of special low dispersion (SLD) glass are lavishly employed while taking advantage of an optical design dedicated for mirrorless lenses.
By employing three aspheric lenses, this lens thoroughly subdues aberrations such as axial chromatic aberration or sagittal coma aberration, which are difficult to correct in post-processing, tailors the resolution and achieves uniformity and superior optical performance from the center to the periphery throughout the zoom range.
In addition to Super Multi-Layer Coating, Nano Porous Coating* is employed. This lens is designed so as to be less affected by strong incident light such as flare. The mirrorless camera-dedicated design successfully contributes to reduction in the lens size and weight.
*In NPC (Nano Porous Coating) SIGMA's own proprietary coating technology, porous silica is employed for coating materials. A porous silica layer creates nano-sized pores inside which air is contained. The pores of this size make it possible to reduce the refractive index significantly, even lower compared with the existing antireflection coatings, thereby drastically reducing reflected light causing flare and ghosting and achieving the high-contrast and clear image quality.
From an early stage in the lens design process, flare and ghosting have been measured to establish an optical design resistant to strong incident light sources such as backlighting. SIGMA's Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to help photographers produce sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions.
The 11-blade rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur in the out-of-focus areas of the image.
The brass mount combines high precision with rugged construction. Its treated surfaces and enhanced strength contribute to the exceptional durability of the lens.
